Bread Pudding with Chocolate Chips

by Zahra J.

One of the things that irk me is seeing food go to waste. Especially bread. Usually I’d spread butter on them, sprinkle some sugar and pop them into the oven for 10 minutes. But yesterday I found an untouched loaf of white bread, expiring that day!

So I made bread pudding for dinner. (I heard that day-old bread works best.) And instead of raisins, I used chocolate chips since they’re much more ‘picky child-friendly’.

-15 slices of regular bread

-1000ml of milk

-3 eggs

-100g sugar (or you can sprinkle them on each buttered slice of bread)

-a teaspoon of vanilla essence

-a generous amount of chocolate chips or a lot!

Preheat oven to 180c.

Cut bread into quarters and arrange them on a baking pan.

In a mixing bowl, combine milk, eggs, sugar and vanilla. Mix well and pour over bread.

Let it soak for about 5 minutes, give or take.

Sprinkle top with chocolate chips.

Bake for 40-30 minutes, or until it rises. (They’ll collaspe when you take them out of the oven, though)
